Grant - Carbon Lock Technologies - Converting Organic Waste into Biochar

We are excited to announce that Carbon Lock Technologies is the second recipient of funds from our Climate Crisis Startup Equipment Fund.

Carbon Lock Technologies has been hard at work building equipment that converts organic waste into biochar. Methane emissions from organic waste in landfills is huge issue across the world accounting for roughly 10% of total methane emissions. Carbon Lock Technologies wants to take this organic waste and instead convert it directly into biochar. Biochar is a very stable form of carbon (locked away for hundreds if not thousands of years). This biochar can be used for many different applications, from agriculture, to water filtration, to an additive in concrete, while at the same time, reducing methane emissions from landfills.

We are very happy to have provided them with $35K in funds to purchase a food waste grinder to reduce the moisture concentration within the organic waste which will improve the efficiency of their process.

We were also very fortunate to have visited their operation in-person to see the exciting work they have been up to! We can’t wait for the grinder to arrive and see them continue to ramp up their very important work!

Update Jan 20th, 2024: We got to visit Carbon Lock Tech and see the new industry grinder is up and running and part of the overall machine! (see photo below)
